Job Title: Communication Specialist

Assignment Type: 6-Month Contract (Potential to Hire)

Location: Charlotte, NC, 28246, Hybrid 3 4 days/week onsite (Tues/Wed/Thurs, sometimes Mon)

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive Communication Specialist to join our dynamic Total Rewards team. This role plays a key part in supporting internal and external communication initiatives related to compensation, benefits, wellness, retirement programs, and onsite health and safety activities. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity offering strong potential for long-term placement.

Key Responsibilities

• Support communication programs across the Total Rewards function, including benefits, compensation, wellness, and retirement.
• Develop and implement engaging, brand-aligned communication strategies to improve employee understanding and engagement.
• Create, edit, and proofread a variety of content including newsletters, presentations, announcements, and internal campaigns.
• Collaborate with external consultants to draft and refine communication materials.
• Serve as an internal liaison with cross-functional teams to coordinate consistent, timely messaging.
• Assist in the planning and execution of communication campaigns, especially during high-activity seasons like Fall Open Enrollment .
• Ensure all content complies with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Support onsite wellness events and virtual healthcare program communications.
• Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Human Resources, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of experience in communications, HR, or related field, preferably in benefits or Total Rewards.

Skills & Competencies:

• Exceptional writing and editorial skills clear, concise, and engaging.
• Strong time and project management capabilities ability to multitask during peak seasons.
• Effective interpersonal and cross-functional communication.
• Proficient in content creation and branded material development (e.g., newsletters, presentations).
• Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator preferred).
• Experience with strategic communication planning and execution for employee engagement campaigns.
• Self-starter with excellent attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment.

Team & Training

• Join a close-knit communications team of 3, within a broader Total Rewards team of 75 members.
• Initial in-person onboarding/training 3 4 days a week.
• Collaboration with both hybrid and remote employees.
