Job Description

Clinic Billing/Insurance

The PSI will handle all billing and insurance matters for the clinic. This will include maintaining patient demographic and insurance information, verifying insurance coverage, collecting data for prior authorization forms, submitting prior authorizations, and tracking approvals. Additional roles will be entering pre-planned treatment, monitoring plans, and fixing account adjustments and errors. They will discuss financial plans and treatment with patients and meet with patients when needed to confirm/verify financial arrangements. They will maintain close contact and communication with insurance companies to verify benefits, convey information, and monitor insurance payments for correctness. They will complete monitoring reports to keep track of missing charges. They will communicate with the clinical billing office (CBO) on insurance and accounts. They will work together with CBO and faculty to determine the need for adjustments when needed. 

Clinical Operations: 

The PSI will confirm and verify referrals both internally and externally. This will include monitoring the number of referrals corresponding with patients and referring providers as needed. They will be responsible for verifying and entering insurance, assisting in checking in/out new patients, and rescheduling patients to maintain the faculty and resident clinical schedules. They will collect payments. They will monitor reports regularly (i.e., financial reports and revenue flows). They will track appointments to check for accuracy and address concerns with the clinic director (i.e., such as no-shows, cancellations, etc). They will communicate with patients regarding appointments and financial responsibilities and triage patient communication to faculty as needed. They will issue non-compliance clinic letters and letters of dismissal as informed by the clinic director. They will maintain the MiDent and MiChart grid and keep the schedule current to reflect the faculty, resident, and student schedules.

2 or more years of experience in an outpatient clinical setting.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google, and Dropbox.  Exceptional customer service skills and a professional demeanor.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to multitask in a busy clinical environment.  Excellent attendance record.

Knowledge of dental and medical terminology. Familiarity with CPT, CDT, and ICD-10 coding. Understanding of dental and medical insurance plans and billing procedures.  Experience with MIDENT/AXIUM and MICHART.  Familiarity with the School of Dentistry.

Work hours on site 7:45 to 4:45 Monday through Friday

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
