Summary

Oversees and develops business processes for the administration of SRP Power Purchase, Energy Storage, and other resource-related agreements. Leads a team and is responsible for ensuring SRP compliance with ongoing agreement terms, enforcing performance obligations of counterparties, negotiating significant contract amendments, resolving disputes, and collaborating with other impacted business units.

What You'll Do

• Manage a team to oversee and administer SRP power purchase, energy storage, and other resource-related agreements, ensuring SRP compliance with ongoing agreement terms, enforcing performance obligations of counterparties, collaborating effectively with impacted business units, and managing business processes.
• Responsible for ensuring all agreements are managed and maintained using SRP’s Contract Center administration tool, internal stakeholder communication and engagement, contract obligation identification and completion, and counterparty relationship management.
• Lead negotiations to resolve disputes arising from disagreements surrounding contract terms or obligations or from failure of a counterparty to meet contract requirements; perform robust and defensible evaluation and comparison of alternatives to meet SRP’s needs, and present findings to leadership.
• Manage the ongoing administration of power purchase, energy storage, and other resource-related agreements, which typically have 20-to-30-year contract term lengths. Coordinate with legal and operational teams to resolve disputes and ensure contract compliance.
• Administer review, sign-off, and execution of all required contract amendments; lead negotiation of any significant contract amendments.
• Develop and implement all reporting tools required to effectively manage on-going contract administration, as well as monitor and enforce performance obligations of both parties.
• Review and validate obligation compliance reports submitted by counterparties and work to resolve any associated disputes.
• Support internal audits of agreements and incorporate recommendations into business process.
• Manage all agreements and associated documents in Contract Center and ECM, as well as all internal access and permissions.
• Develop and maintain strategic alliances with developers, power marketers, independent power producers, and other utilities.
• Hire, develop, and train new employees. Provide direction to analysts with varying experience from in-training to Senior Principal level.
  
   

What It Takes To Succeed

This is a position that requires a leader who is able to manage multiple priorities and interface effectively with leadership internal and external stakeholders. The successful administration of these resource contracts is critical to ensuring that SRP is properly managing risk, receiving the best value for customers, and able to provide reliable, sustainable, and affordable power. SRP has over 40 power purchase and energy storage agreements and it is expected that this will more than double in the next decade, creating a need for a significant level of management and oversight.

The ideal candidate for this position would also have the following skills and capabilities:

• Demonstrated track record of collaboration with other organizations to accomplish objectives. 
• Ability to lead multiple assignments concurrently under pressure.
• Demonstrated agility and leadership with optimism when responding to changing industry dynamics and leadership guidance. 
• Good negotiation skills and the ability to constructively resolve difficult disputes with counterparties.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to build rapport with all levels of employees within SRP and external stakeholders.
• Knowledge of electric utility economics, contract administration, and power purchase agreements.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills. 
• Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Experience

A minimum of eight years of related experience is required (if no degree, 12 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling 12 years).

Education

A bachelor’s degree related to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
