Job Description

Position Summary
The Senior Pastor reports directly to the Church. He is responsible for establishing the vision and general direction of the Church. He oversees the teaching of the Word of God and is charged to preserve the Articles of Faith of the Church. He oversees the general ministry of the Church, protects the overall welfare of the Church, and is responsible for leading the Church. The Senior Pastor oversees the work of the Professional Staff. He is to work in coordination with and seek the counsel of the Deacons and Personnel Committees in a manner consistent with the purpose of the Church. The Senior Pastor shall serve as President of the Corporation.

Supervision Received
The Senior Pastor reports directly to the Church.

Supervision Exercised
The Senior Pastor oversees the work of the Professional Staff. He is to work in coordination with and seek the counsel of the Deacons and Personnel Committee.

Essential Functions
The position is highly independent and works with minimal oversight:

1. Establishes vision and general direction of the church.

Related Tasks

1. Serves as God’s under-shepherd who daily provides spiritual leadership for the church
2. Administers the Lord’s Supper and baptisms.
3. Provides guidance to the Nominating Committee to identify Pillar Leaders, approved by the church, to lead in the 5 core functions of the church as defined in the Bylaws.
4. Works with Pillar Leaders to carry out the mission and ministries of the church.
5. Works with deacons to administer the Benevolence Ministry

2. Directly responsible for the leading worship and preaching of the Word.

Related Tasks

1. Serves as Worship Pillar Leader and in association of the Music Director, directs all activities that lead or facilitate the church’s worship experience.
2. Directs regular or special church services.
3. Works with the audiovisual team for equipment and technology needed for the church website, email, webcasts, voicemail, and other forms of electronic communication.

3. Oversees the teaching of the Word of God.

1. Works with the Discipleship Pillar Leader to focus on Bible study opportunities presented to the church and community at large.
2. Evaluates and recommends training for staff and various church leaders.
3. Leads or designates others to teach New Believer and New Member Class courses.
4. Serves as superintendent of the Lighthouse Preschool

4. Protects the overall welfare of the church.

Related Tasks

1. Leads the church in the administration of church discipline in accordance with the church bylaws.
2. Works with the Stewardship Committee and Treasurer and staff to provide general oversight of financial policies and procedures.
3. Works with church leadership to ensure Insurance coverage is in place to protect the local body of Christ and those who interact with the church.
4. Ensures provisions of the Child Abuse Prevention Policy are carried out by members of the church.
5. Works with the Property Committee to ensure safety and emergency procedures are carried out. Assists with building maintenance as needed.

5. Leads the Church.

1. Serves as moderator and presides over regular or special business meetings.
2. Chairs the church council meetings and is an ex-officio member of each committee.
3. Nominates members of the Nominating committee
4. Supervises and directs employees and staff members, aided by the personnel committee. The committee has the authority to hire and terminate employees who were not called by church action as advised by the Senior Pastor.
5. Works with the Stewardship Committee in preparation of an annual operating budget.
6. Works with the Property Committee, with consent of the church, establishes policies regarding the use of church property and equipment.

6. Serves as President of the Corporation.

Related Tasks

1. Ensures all required filings, reports, and transactions of the church conform to applicable state and federal statutes governing an Illinois religious nonprofit corporation (the “Church”).
2. Ensures a current Operations Manual is maintained in the Church Office and available for review by the Church Members.
3. Works with trustees who are charged with holding church property in trust. They have the power to buy, sell, mortgage, lease, or transfer any property owned by the church once they have been authorized to do so, by a specific vote of the church.
4. Transacts business electronically using ACH, bank debit card or other process as approved by the church
5. Approves prompt payment of fiscal obligations associated with normal day-to-day operation of the church.

Qualifications
Senior Pastor qualifications are taken from Scripture, including but not limited to: I Timothy 3:8 13 and Acts 6:2.

Must be at least 21 years of age

1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
2. Must be sound in doctrine, called for full-time ministry, and ordained by a Southern Baptist Church or church of like faith.
3. If married, must be the husband of one wife. This excludes one who has been divorced and one who marries a divorced woman.
4. Must have high moral standards.

Special Qualifications

1. Must pass criminal background check.
2. Must comply with regulations pertaining to mandated reporters as required by Illinois statutes.
3. Must uphold and agree to the 2000 Baptist Faith & Message.

Education and Experience

• Requires seminary training with a Master of Divinity or related degree preferred, AND
• Requires at least two years related experience with five or more years related experience preferred.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities for Essential Functions

1. Requires a highly developed ability to exercise initiative and administrative capacity in planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of staff and volunteer leaders in the church.
2. Requires the ability to coordinate with representatives from collaborating churches and community based organizations including but not limited to Metro East Baptist Association,
   Illinois State Baptist Association, Ministerial Association, and Concerned Christians.
3. Requires the maturity and ability to deal positively and effectively with the demands of leadership, supervision, adapt to change and meet established time frames for church services
   and ministries in a consistent fashion.
4. Requires the ability to maintain current professional knowledge and skills related to the area of assigned responsibilities.
5. Requires high standards of ethics, honesty and integrity in performance of his duties and responsibilities.
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with staff, church officers, members of the church, business contacts and members of the public.
7. Must possess basic computer skills, including but not limited to utilizing social media platforms to interact and communicate with the congregation and community.

Required Physical and Behavioral Abilities for Essential Functions

1. Ability to bend, lift, and safely engage performance of general office duties.
2. Visual acuity and auditory functions as necessary to work effectively in a general office setting.
3. Emotional stability needed to maintain professional conduct in dealing with others who may be in stressful situations.
